Thought we might be in for the long haul….so wanted to have a loo in keeping sand sea and sunshine…and it’s got a better view than the indoor loo!
Thought we might be in for the long haul….so wanted to have a loo in keeping sand sea and sunshine…and it’s got a better view than the indoor loo!
I adore this Long Drop – better than a conventional loo. I could sit here for hours! You are all so brave and stoic and obviously still have a sense of humour regardless of this tragedy. We were in your town for a day while cruising on the Rhapsody of the Seas in January and found the people most welcoming and friendly, with a beautiful township. I have lots of lovely photo’s of Christchurch that I will never print out now.
KEEP YOUR SPIRITS UP!!!
Thanks for your supportive words!…It so helps having others to share a laugh with.
Gorgeous! Real craftsmanship with a touch of homeliness.
The craftsmanship I’d have to attribute to husband David. He loved the opportunity to get out the hammer and nails and create a little bit of order during a very disordered time.
Aesthetically a winner!!!
‘Luxury at the beach’ seems to be the most attractive ‘dunny’ that I have seen so far. I would be alittle concerned of your wellbeing on a cold and wet winters night, so hope and pray that you will soon find that restored amenities will make your ‘creation’ redundant and you will just leave it there as another lovely piece of garden furniature.
It’s been one hell-of-a-way to get you Christchurch peoples to talk to your neighbours, but at last you are doing it. Hang-in down there.
Judy,an expat Timaruvian in the North.
Thanks Judy Lee for your lovely comments…we are enjoying the fresh air and wonderful views so much we are going to be reluctant to see our creation redundant…and when it rains we have a big garden umbrella just off-camera…still keeping with the beachy style!
Those petunias will be gorgeous for years to come!
Petunias do very well with lots of fertiliser – so couldn’t be a better location…thanks for the vote!
Top stuff, inspiring to use and beach smells to boot. What more could you want! Best in my book. How disappointing it will be when waste waterβs back on.
Thanks for the vote. We are into camping and usually go away for this experience so we think this ones a keeper…and always wanted a two bathroom house!
talk about styley! It’s got that whole indoor outdoor flow, solid design, functional, simple and pleasing to the eye.. I really wanna say ‘postmodernism’ but that just sounds wanky suffice it to say ‘you gotta nice bog!’
rock on.
There’s an artist in the family and we appreciate your wanky analysis…yes I agree it resonates postmodern (lol)
I have to vote for Luxury at the Beach! Every care taken to provide a comfortable experience, not to mention the obvious craftsmanship, and then, of course there’s the homely nick nacks and the flowers. Brilliant!
Thanks Doug! Two bathrooms now – must improve the resale value!
I admire you all for having humour after what you have been through. Good on you Christchurch, I last visited your beautiful city 4 years ago and cry every time I see the damage.
Thank you!! Its great to know Christchurch has lots of support from beyond the city. A little bit of humour goes a long way at the moment. Our thoughts are never too far away from those who have lost a lot more than buildings. One day we will have a fantastic city again with very safe beautiful new buildings-there’s lots of creative people out there (look what we have already…beautiful loos are just the start!)
This is so cool! Looks pretty comfortable too…
must be the winner, exemplifies all the qualities of good old kiwi ingenuity, craftmanship and the neeccsary style and grace that sets a throne apart.
Well you are the garden city.
Yes we are still the garden city!!! I hadn’t thought of that…Gardening is good for soothing frayed nerves so even though there maybe no Ellerslie flowershow this year maybe some Christchurch gardens will be really blooming ; )
It’s a winner. This looks even better than your inside loo – I know, I’ve seen it!
Hi Beryl…you are so right….the outside loo is showing up the rest of the house…what can I say…I am a child of nature at heart!
I love the thought and design that’s gone into Luxury-at-the-Beach. Is it a loo with a view? Perhaps the future king could try it out if he visits ChCh. Let him experience a real throne!
This loo has a great view…flowers, trees, poodles gambling about…a flock of starlings in the trees…it’s poetic…almost makes me forget what it actually is π
Love the ornamental touch on the back wall. Love ya style. Love ya humour. Yaaa to you guys !!! Spot on !!
Thank’s for your vote…the ornament on the back wall has a story…It used to be on the house but the violence of the shake not only tore it off the wall, it broke it…so in a cathartic moment I repaired it and hung it back up – take that earthquake!!
Hiya to my Aussie mates – glad you voted for my sis!!
Very Classy. Love the name plate and the hanging windchimes which…. tinkle when you tinkle?! Love ya Christchurch
That is a very good one Barbara better than a lot of peoples indoor loo all the best Mary
Thank you Mary!…and this loo is better than my indoor loo (as a friend noted on this site!) Good to have a bit of a laugh in the middle of all of this! What a time over the last while…for you all on the coast too. Best wishes Barb
Love the loo Barbara. I would be very happy to use it and just love the surrounding flowers & privacy setting. Well done and definitely a winner.
Good luck
Love Lynette
Hi Lynette…You would be more than welcome to use my loo…and you can pat a poodle or two at the same time…The dogs love a captive audience….actually we must do something about that!!! Thanks for the vote! I am overwhelmed with the interest in my humble amenities. : ) All very best Barb
you have really been having a awfull time over there hope things settle down pretty soon, your mother and gran are coming down tomorrow and we are going into town for lunch so am looking forward to it all the best Mary
Very nice. I love the tale of how the wind chime got there! π
What? No magazines! Big marketing opportunity going begging here David! I’m imagining you sitting there reading your Country-Wide….and I’m pleased we’ve upgraded to gloss stock!
Hi there, this is fab…some real “out of the box” thinking…..being out in the lovely fresh air has the extra advantage of not having to run water to get rid of any nasty wiffs that you want to get rid of if you were in the confined space of an indoor toilet.
I really like the added touch of what look like Pansies (wee pink flowers)…those will no doubt provide a nice and natural scent in the air…well done.
Hope things are getting a bit better..the northern hemisphere sends its well wishes
Hi Daniela Outdoor is so nice…may never go back indoors. The flowers are petunia’s…they grow prolifically out here at the beach….I am so pleased I took the time to plant heaps before the quake…They are so cheery. Thank you Northern Hemisphere for your wishes.
Love it. I was in ChCh only for that day so didn’t get to see much before all he** broke loose but what I did see was beautiful. Sadly, there were no port a loos yet available when nature called and I had to pee in the Botanical Gardens π sorry. Would have stood in line to use your loo though, its gorgeous Kia Kaha.
Hi Amy…when you’ve got to go you’ve got to go…how many people can say they’ve peed in the Botanical Gardens! π
Hi Barbara,
Awsome loo!!!
Great to see you are making the best of an horrific experience. Your loo really is luxury at the beach under the circumstances. I still can’t get my head around what has happened to our beautiful city. Take care and keep smiling.
Diana
Like you I can’t get my head around the scale of things, I am letting it in in little manageable bits. I heard somewhere when the going gets tough – smile until you feel like smiling. π
Beautifully crafted. Dunnerslie Flower Show an extra treat.
People would pay to have a photo taken on such an upmarket edifice.I love the
suburb meets sea theme.Hope all is back to normal for you soon.nyiti terms
HI Mary Your comment’s got me thinking…Maybe our Mayor will be interested in a Dunnerslie exhibtion in our flower show next year! Spread the word!! Thanks for the vote.
A bower with flowers at your feet,
A beautiful pristine white seat;
I think that a stop at your lovely long-drop
Would certainly be quite a treat.
What kind words and how creative!! π hmmm…a reply in kind:
There is a loo by the shore
That has a sarong for a door
Our sewers are down
Hence the hole in the ground
But how nice flowers grow from the floor
I can see we need a new competition for best loo poetry – couple of contenders for top honours here I reckon
We have loved looking through the website but this is definitely our favourite ! Good on you Kiwi’s for making the best of a tough situation – we are proud of you.
Hi Sydneysider…thanks for the vote and the encouragement!
Great idea,Barbara.Or all the long drops could be repositioned either side of the
walkway leading to the entrance at the 2112 Flower show.Dunnerslie Drive springs to mind
Crappers Close,Ablutions Avenue………..
Anyway I still think your dunny is DROP dead gorgeous.
Hi Mary…lets talk to Mayor Bob…what a fab idea! Its a winner…
hi aunty barbara NICE toilet u got there nana told me to vote for ur toilet and gave me the website… by the way NICE toilet hope to see u some time… xxx π
Hey Josh….come and see the long drop in person-its even nicer….The poodles love it because they get to hassle who ever is in the loo for pats. (we have 3 with us at the moment because of a new addition – a rescue dog called Pippin that shivers at every aftershock) Thanks for the vote ! xxx
thats ok… i will encourage all my friends to vote aswell… 3:)
That would be great – the more the merrier!
π π
Looks fantastic – who needs potpourri when you’ve got live flowers!
